TWO-TIME MAJOR CHAMPION AND SOLHEIM CUP LEGEND SUZANN PETTERSEN MAKES A RETURN TO COMPETITIVE GOLF AT ARAMCO KOREA CHAMPIONSHIP

European golfing icon returns to the fairways at New Korea Country Club, balancing mother-first perspective with world-class tournament ambition.
The Aramco Korea Championship returns to New Korea Country Club in Goyang, Gyeonggi-do, from October 8–11, 2026, welcoming world-class talent to the Korean peninsula for the prestigious $2 million Ladies European Tour (LET) fixture. The event builds on the momentum of August’s PIF London championship, where 17-year-old sensation Annae Huang claimed a thrilling victory to secure a $300,000 winner's check from the $2 million prize purse.
Sanctioned by the LET and presented in partnership with Golf Saudi, the PIF Global Series, and host partner Kolon Group, the championship brings together elite major winners, rising international stars, and leading domestic contenders for four days of world-class competition.
Headlining this year’s field historically is two-time major champion and European golf icon Suzann Pettersen, who will step inside the ropes for her first elite competitive appearance in four years. One of the most decorated figures in modern European sports history, Pettersen famously capped her full-time career with the winning putt at the 2019 Solheim Cup before transitioning to motherhood and guiding Team Europe through back-to-back captaincies. Now, returning to the fairways of Korea - where she previously claimed two LPGA titles- the Norwegian star brings a transformed outlook to elite competition.
"I’ve played in Golf Saudi events before and have always been incredibly impressed by how well they are run and, more importantly, by the commitment they’ve shown to supporting and investing in women’s golf," said Pettersen. "It’s exciting to see organisations putting real weight behind the women’s game and creating opportunities for players on a global stage, so this felt like a great environment to come back into. My life is also at a slightly different stage now. My kids are a little older, which gives me a bit more freedom to pick up the clubs again and dedicate some time to the game. I’ve started to really enjoy practising again, and eventually you start wondering, what would this feel like under tournament pressure? Korea felt like the right place to find out."
Pettersen’s return marks the powerful evolution of an athlete once renowned for unmatched, ruthless intensity. Over a legendary career spanning 15 LPGA victories, two majors, and nine Solheim Cup appearances, Pettersen defined the meaning of European competitive grit in golf.
Today, her preparations at her academy at The Alto Club in Spain reflect a renewed balance between physical recovery, technical muscle memory, and family life.
"When my son was born, the first thing that went out the window was my ego," Pettersen reflected. "For so many years, my life had revolved around the scorecard, my performance, my career, whether I won or lost, and suddenly there was someone who mattered infinitely more than any of that. My competitive fire hasn’t disappeared, but I’m competing because I genuinely love the game, not because I feel like I need another trophy to validate my career. There’s freedom in that. The scorecard doesn’t define me in the way it perhaps once did."
The return to South Korea holds profound personal significance for Pettersen, who celebrated two signature LPGA victories on Korean soil in 2007 and 2012 before roaring galleries.
"I’ve always loved playing in Asia. There’s such a genuine passion for golf here, and particularly women’s golf, which makes it an incredibly special place to compete," added Pettersen. "I have so many memories of playing alongside great Korean champions like Inbee Park and So Yeon Ryu and seeing crowds ten deep following us. Korea has been very good to me throughout my career, so coming back here to experience tournament golf again feels quite fitting."
Pettersen hopes her presence at New Korea Country Club serves as a blueprint for the next generation of players sharing fairways with her:
"If my presence here sends any message to the younger players, I hope it’s that there isn’t one right way to have a career. You can evolve, step away, become a mother, become a captain, experience life outside the ropes, and still come back to something you love. Sometimes a different perspective can bring you back for all the right reasons."
Underpinning the championship is Golf Saudi’s long-term commitment to building a sustainable, end-to-end pathway for the global game, connecting grassroots youth golf development across the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia directly to the highest tier of international professional sport. Golf Saudi continues to deliver a viable commercial platform that empowers emerging prodigies and returning champions alike to compete at the peak of their craft for transformative rewards.
Tournament rounds for the Aramco Korea Championship get underway on Thursday, October 8, 2026, at New Korea Country Club, with global television coverage broadcast across international networks and domestic broadcast partners.
